Kent Co. Sheriff Dept. - worn during the 1960s - new condition - In 1836 the first sheriff took office in Kent County. The SO is responsible for the enforcement of criminal and civil law in the non-incorporated areas of the county, as well as providing support to incorporated areas upon request. The Traffic Squad's Enforcement Unit regularly provides officers to assist the sheriff's office with a second officer in patrol cars as well as additional personnel for the Marine and Parks Division. The unit also provides support personnel to assist all law enforcement agencies in Kent County when additional trained personnel are needed. Kent Co. Sheriff Scientific Support Unit - new condition - The main task of the Crime Scene Unit (CSU) is to assist deputies with crime scene investigations: Photographing and sketching the crime scene, collecting latent fingerprints, hairs, fibers and body fluids, and photographing shoe and tire prints. Other forensics duties include creating composite sketches, crime scene diagrams, reviewing and enhancing video surveillance data, and installing silent alarms and video surveillance equipment. All members of the unit have a bachelor's degree and specialized training in crime scene work.
