Sheridan Co. Sheriffs Dept. - new condition - Retired Sheriff Lawrence Gessner designed this patch in 1999 when he became Chief Deputy. The patch is a representation of the Northern Plains of North Dakota where Buffalo have been a living landmark since the Native Amcericans first started using them as a provisional mainstay in their lifestyle. When they hunted them they only killed the amount of buffalo that they needed for provisions. Every part of the animal was put to use and nothing was wasted. Mr. Gessner found this a fascination part of history and wanted to include it to the patch. Sheridan Co. is the center of North Dakota and has adapted the phrase "The Heart of North Dakota".
