Wilkes Co. Sheriffs Dept. - hat patch - new condition - In 1806, near Washington in Wilkes County, a woman named Polly Barclay was hanged as an accomplice in the murder of her husband — one of the earliest known convictions of a woman in Georgia.

Wilkes Co. Sheriffs Office - new condition - In 1806, near Washington in Wilkes County, a woman named Polly Barclay was hanged as an accomplice in the murder of her husband — one of the earliest known convictions of a woman in Georgia.

Wilkinson Co. Sheriff - new condition - On August 30, 1871, Sheriff Matthew Deason of Wilkinson County, was found gagged, shot in the head, and dumped in a mill pond near Toomsboro. An African American woman, was found with him, severely mutilated. The murders remain unsolved.

Worth Co. Sheriffs Dept. - new condition - In 1916, a mob in Worth County lynched five Black men accused- without trial - of killing Lee County Sheriff Moreland. Taken from the Sylvester jail by deception, the men were hanged and shot near Starkville, an act widely condemned and remembered as a lasting stain on the county’s history.
