Elko Co. Sheriff - 228 - new condition - On January 17, 2012, Deputy Sheriff Lawrence, badge no. 228, died as a result of a gunshot wound he had sustained thirty years earlier on June 26, 1982. Deputy Lawrence was questioning a suspect about an automobile accident when the suspect suddenly pulled a gun and shot Deputy Lawrence in the head. Deputy Lawrence underwent brain surgery and was forced to retire from the force due to health reasons. The suspect was shot and killed by a person who witnessed the shooting. |
